Disney Cruise Line Trip Report
August 2001 - Disney Magic
7-Day Cruise

Introduction

In May of this year, my wife and I, wanting to try something different, took an 11 day "transfer cruise" aboard Celebrity Cruises' new ship, the Millennium. A transfer cruise is when a ship is moved from one port to another for the start of a new season. In this case, the the Millennium was being transfered from a southern California/Mexico circuit which it did in the winter to an Alaska circuit, which it did in the summer. The ship was brand new, having been delayed in construction several months, and this was only its 4th journey. We were excited to be aboard this wonderful, luxurious, and massive new ship. And, at 11 days, this was by far our longest cruise ever. We had hoped to have my wife's parents join us on this cruise, but schedules conflicted and they were unable to come along for the cruise. But having completed this cruise, and knowing that we were capable of doing more than simple 3 or 4 day cruises, we again got in touch with my wife's parents and discussed new plans. Annie and I had wanted to do the 7-Day DCL Caribbean cruise since we'd heard about it.

No sooner were we off Celebrity Cruises' Millennium, that we were booking a new cruise on the Disney Magic to tour the Caribbean. My wife's parents lived on the west coast and had often visited Disneyland in California, but they had never been to Walt Disney World in Florida. So we added three days to our trip prior to the cruise to visit our favorite place on earth. Our trip would begin on August 29th, with our ship sailing on September 1st.
