Day 3 - August 31st, 2001

Our schedule was much more laid back on this day, giving us time to have breakfast at Chef Mickey's. Annie and I may be getting a little tired of meals with Disney characters, but Annie's parents seemed to have a great time having breakfast with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale. Afterwards, we headed out to the Disney-MGM Studios determined to get there in time to catch the first showing of the day of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? - Play it!. We arrived with time to spare and, indeed, with lines so short, stuck around for two more showings (we even got to sit in the Fastest Finger seats during the second showing!).

We then visited the Disney-MGM Studios Backlot Tour and the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith before returning to the hotel. We had dinner reservations at the Liberty Tree Tavern at the Magic Kingdom, which I highly recommend for anyone looking for a character dining experience. While this dinner does not feature Mickey Mouse, it does have Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Goofy, and Chip and Dale. And the dinner select, a choice of colonial American dishes, including roasted turkey, beef, mashed potatoes and sweet rolls, is excellent.

With the Magic Kingdom closing at a relatively early 7pm, we all purchased "E-Ticket" passes that permitted us to remain in the park and ride a pared down number of attractions until 10pm. Many of the attractions were in fact closed after 7pm (as were many of the "lands"), but most of the trill rides, including Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Space Mountain were open and there were no lines, so you could ride them again and again. During this time, I also got to experience Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin for the first time. It's been years since I'd had a chance to experience all the "kiddie" rides at the Magic Kingdom and I was hoping to take this opportunity to ride them all again, but with most of them closed, I consoled myself with this vastly entertaining Buzz Lightyear themed ride.
